Session Overview

Australia is undergoing the largest intergenerational transfer of wealth in its history.

Research shows that beneficiaries of an estate have a high propensity to change their financial advisors. So it’s never been more important to understand the key issues in estate planning and the impact that it will have on your clients and your practice.

This practical session will include actionable steps so that you can cover the basics, understand the ecosystem of aligned estate planning partners, and gain a forwardlooking perspective to stay abreast of emerging trends and technology.

You will gain an understanding of your obligations, as well as the opportunities associated with estate planning.

You will also be given insights based on behavioural science to help you manage clients in grief and stress. This will help
you to anticipate and prepare for the impact it will have on your interpersonal interactions.

If you are looking to establish or augment an estate planning offer to futureproof your practice, this session is essential.

Colin Jowell

Applied Behavioural Scientist & Founder, BillWill

Colin is an experienced brand, communications, and customer experience strategist. He has designed prototype experiences for AMP Advice, Commonwealth Bank, and created branding, identity, and positioning strategies for large advisory networks (Count) as well as disruptive startups (Frollo).

He is qualified in Behavioural Science and has studied the impact of stress and grief on financial decision-making at the London School of Economics, where he was awarded his MSc in 2023.

Combining his experience in Financial Advice with his Behavioural Science insights, he founded BillWill in 2024, an innovative, Open Banking-enabled estate planning tool that manages the closure or transfer of accounts and subscriptions in the event of death or incapacity. No solution currently exists to reduce this painful and time-consuming challenge. BillWill turns 50+ hours of admin into minutes. Colin now undertakes select branding and communications tasks within the financial advice industry and is focused on the growing number of partnerships he has with estate lawyers and financial planners to augment their offerings with BillWill.
