Paul Derham

Bio
Paul Derham is the Managing Partner at Holley Nethercote. He helps participants in the financial services industry to meet their legal and compliance obligations. Paul regularly assists businesses acquire their Australian financial services licences (AFSLs), and build robust governance systems to help them stay out of court, and out of the hands of regulators. He works closely with global payments, crypto, derivatives, FX and advisory groups, as well as fintech startups. He’s involved in regulatory reform work in Australia and on a global scale, consulting in person to International Standards-Setting bodies including the Financial Stability Board. He also sits on compliance committees for a large number of AFSL holders.

Samantha Hills

Bio
Sam provides legal support, licence application assistance and training to a wide range of financial services licensees. She has a particular interest in financial advice and insurance (both general and life insurance) – industries where she sees great capacity for positive human impact. She has considerable input into Holley Nethercote’s compliance templates and its monthly regulatory update, T-REX. Sam has been with Holley Nethercote for over 20 years, including the past few years as Partner.

Katherine Temple
Perth, Adelaide
Bio
Since her admission to practice in 2011, Katherine has worked in private practice and at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. Katherine was also the Director of Policy and Campaigns for a consumer advocacy organisation, leading a team of legal and policy experts who contributed to significant reforms in credit and financial services law in recent years.
Katherine has regularly appeared in the media to discuss consumer law and finance issues, including interviews with the Australian Financial Review, 7.30 Report and A Current Affair. Katherine has been a member of various panels and forums, including ASIC’s Consumer Advisory Panel and the RBA’s Payments Consultation Group.
Her experience is primarily in the practice of consumer credit, competition and consumer, and financial services laws. Katherine provides advice to credit and financial services licensees about complying with their regulatory obligations and engaging fairly with consumers. Katherine also regularly provides advice to startups about whether a credit or financial services licence is required for their business, and potential regulatory risks.
