Event Code of Conduct

Abiding by the FAAA Event Code of Conduct (Code) is a condition of entry and participation in all FAAA events.

The Code establishes the behavioural standards to be observed by the FAAA’s staff and event attendees, contractors, volunteers and suppliers in connection with the event. FAAA anticipates that its events will be free from conduct that makes individuals feel unsafe or unwelcome, and expects all event attendees to uphold this standard.

The standards set out in this code apply to all personnel attending FAAA events, including events organised by FAAA Chapters. The standards set out in the Code apply to any activity or communication that occurs face to face, as well as on any virtual event platform.

Standard of professional behaviour

All personnel must behave professionally at all times in connection with the event. The standards of professional behaviour to be observed include (without limitation):

  • Follow the reasonable rules, policies, directions and other practices required by the FAAA or any venue hosting the event;
  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure own safety, including in relation to the responsible consumption of alcohol;
  • Showing respect towards others at all times, including being considerate, cooperative and collaborative;
  • Present and behave in an appropriate professional manner including in dress code, communications, actions etc;
  • Not engaging in any prohibited behaviour (see below);
  • Alert security personnel or the FAAA staff if a potentially unsafe situation is observed or suspected.

Prohibited behaviour includes any behaviour that is unacceptable or unwelcome, and includes without limitation:

  • Discrimination whether direct or indirect (treating someone unfairly because of race, colour, sex, sexual preference, age, physical or mental disability, marital status, family responsibilities, pregnancy, religion, political opinion, national extraction or social origin or any other protected characteristic);
  • Harassment whether direct or indirect (words or actions directed at a person that annoys, alarms or causes substantial emotional distress);
  • Sexual harassment (unwelcome, uninvited sexual conduct or behaviour that – regardless of the intent – is offensive from the view of the person harassed, or that creates an offensive, intimidating or hostile environment, or any other unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature);
  • Defamatory comments of any nature;
  • Physical abuse and uninvited physical contact;
  • Intimidation, threats (implied or real) of any form whatsoever, as well as verbal abuse including any unwelcome or discriminatory comments in relation to an individual;
  • Sharing of any permanent or semi-permanent digital or non-digital material, including offensive words, images or media in any form whatsoever;
  • Irresponsible or excessive consumption of alcohol;
  • The consumption, possession or supply of any illegal substance (or controlled substance without appropriate medical authorisation);
  • Any unlawful behaviour of whatsoever nature;
  • Any unlawful damage to property of whatsoever nature.

Should any prohibited behaviour be observed, anticipated, suspected or reported, the FAAA may take any reasonable measure that it deems necessary to ensure the safety of others, and/or the maintenance of a professional environment. Such action may include refusal of entry to, or removal of one or more individuals from the event, and any future activities undertaken by the FAAA, at its sole discretion.

Any prohibited, unwelcome or unprofessional behaviour that is witnessed or suspected, should be reported immediately to an FAAA representative immediately. Confidentiality of the reporting individual will be maintained where it is practical to do so. Reports will be treated seriously and investigated. Appropriate action will follow.

The FAAA reserves the right to cancel a delegate’s participation at an event at any time, without notice, justification or refund.

FAAA members are reminded that their conduct is covered by the FAAA’s Professional Code, and that inappropriate conduct at professional events may lead to formal action being taken, in line with the FAAA’s Conduct & Integrity Regulation.

Updated 2 June 2025

The FAAA has established this Event Code of Conduct to provide guidelines to attendees and to ensure that all attendees understand what behaviour is expected, and what behaviour will not be tolerated at an FAAA event.

The FAAA expects all attendees to abide by this Event Code of Conduct at all events. This Event Code of Conduct applies to all physical events, online communities and through social media platforms.

The FAAA is dedicated to providing a harassment-free and inclusive event experience for everyone regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disabilities, neurodiversity, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, or religion.

All attendees are expected to assist in upholding this Code of Conduct, and to notifying the FAAA when they see Attendees not doing so.
