Remembering Dugald Mitchell OAM

We are very saddened by the loss last Friday of Dugald Mitchell OAM at the age of 89. Dugald was a former President of the AFA, an AFA life member and the 2018 Michael Murphy Award winner. Dugald was the President of the AFA in 1987 and 1988, however he was also a long term contributor to the AFA, having played an important role as a member of the National Education Committee and the Policy Advisory Committee.

Dugald was a key player in the lobbying over FSR and CLERP 6, and helped drive advocacy campaigns with local members. Dugald was a great believer in seeking recognition of financial advice as a profession, including calling for financial advice to require a tertiary level education. Dugald was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1994 for services to the Life Insurance Industry and to the Community. It was his long history of service and universal respect that resulted in the recognition of winning the Michael Murphy award in 2018. Dugald lived most of his life in the southern NSW town of Cooma.

The funeral for Dugald Mitchell will be held at 10am on Tuesday 29 August at Saint James Boloco Church, 6286 The Snowy River Way.
