Transferring your Certification

The CFP certification is a global designation that allows professionals to transfer their certification from one Territory to another, via cross border arrangements. In Australia the FAAA offers two forms of the CFP certification – a practising CFP credential for those who are registered on the Financial Advisers Register (FAR), and a non-practising CFP credential for those who are working in a planning role but are not registered on the FAR. If you want to practice as a financial adviser in Australia, you need to meet the requirements – refer to the section below ‘Become a Financial Adviser in Australia’.

Submit your transfer application today

You will need to include the below in your application in order to transfer your CFP certification to Australia:

Once your application has been approved and your application for FAAA membership (in a Practitioner or Affiliate category) has also been approved, your membership will be upgraded to the appropriate CFP professional status.

Become a Financial Adviser in Australia

To work as a financial planner in Australia you need to be employed by an Australian Financial Services Licensee (AFSL) who will register you on the ASIC Financial Advisers Register (FAR).

To become a financial adviser with an AFSL, you need to meet the education standards set out by the Australian Government, pass the ASIC Financial Adviser exam and complete a Professional Year.
